HVAC Trends in 2020

HVAC Resolutions!

With the new year upon us, Temp Control wants to ensure that your homes will remain cozy and trouble-free while we’re in the throes of winter. Even though “The Old Farmer’s Almanac” is predicting a relatively warm and wet winter for New Jersey, that doesn’t mean we’re free to neglect our HVAC needs in the new decade. Temp Control wants to remind its customers of some issues that may have gotten lost in the holiday shuffle.

FREON IS NO MORE

First to consider: is your air conditioning system up to date with its refrigerant? The Environmental Protection Agency’s regulation for manufacturers to quit making and importing Freon (also known as HCFC-22 and R-22) takes effect this January. Freon will only be available as recycled refrigerant or from old stock after the beginning of the year. Freon-based HVAC units must now be replaced or retrofitted to utilize the refrigerant called R410A. So, if your HVAC is relying on Freon and you haven’t retrofitted, this is the time to contact Temp Control for an inspection of your system and figure out the most efficient and cost-effective way to replace that old air conditioner or make the existing one work a little longer.

ROUTINE CHECKUP

Next, if the holidays were overwhelming and the HVAC unit was the last thing on your mind, then it’s time to schedule a maintenance visit. Even though the current temps are not brutally cold, we know that New Jersey weather can turn on a dime. Making sure your filters have been replaced as required by the manufacturer’s recommendation; also, checking batteries and settings on your thermostat is a simple step you can do on your own. But calling in a professional technician from Temp Control to check components and key workings of a furnace and the rest of the system will go a long way to ensure there are no surprises when the weather decides to take a turn for the worse.

TIME TO REPLACE

Finally, it might be time to upgrade your whole system or parts of the system. HVAC units begin to deteriorate at around 12 years old or older depending on how well they’ve been used and maintained. Certainly, if your energy bills have been rising and you’re having trouble maintaining comfort levels in your home, it may be time to consider replacing that unit with a more modern and efficient system. Temp Control carries a complete line of Coleman heating, air conditioning, and indoor air quality products to fit all budgets and needs.
